Features of the Breville BJS600XL Fountain Crush Masticating Slow Juicer
Since the Breville BJS600XL Fountain Crush Masticating Slow Juicer has many parts to put together, its assembly may seem a hassle. However, it’s not very complicated.
Firstly users have to place the filter inside the juice extractor and then place the auger on the opening of the filter. Then they should align the feeding chute on top and lastly place the food hopper on top.
Luckily, they’ve provided dots on each of the parts so that alignment becomes easy. When a part is placed properly, users can hear a click to ensure that the alignment is correct.
The Breville BJS600XL is equipped with a 240-watt super quiet motor which is super powerful too at the same time.
The Breville BJS600XL is aesthetically pleasing with its striking white exterior and the food hopper on top.
Due to the vertical design of the Breville Fountain Crush Juicer, it takes less space on the counter or in the cabinet.
The speed of just 80 RPM makes the Breville Fountain Crush Juicer super quiet so that juice lovers can even run it in the early morning or whenever they want without disturbing family members or neighbors.
The juicing jug of the Breville BJS600XL has a feeding chute and two spouts – one for the juice and the other for pulp.
Apart from the juicing jug, the juicer comes with two containers – one for the juice and the other for pulp. All these are made of ABS plastic.
Dual Direction Control
The Fountain Crush Juicer features a dual direction control which means it spins in both directions. A Reverse button is provided below the On/Off button-pushing which users can make the juicer run in the reverse direction.
This helps to unclog anything that may get clogged while the juicer is limited to only one direction spinning. However, it’s been observed that this juicer stays clog-free even while spinning in one direction.
Since the feeding chute of the Breville BJS600XL is small, users have to cut the produce so that the pieces can go down the chute easily.
A pusher has been included with the juicer, but users should not use it immediately after adding the pieces of the produce to the feeding tube as it may cause clogging and eventually the juicer may stop working.
Instead, users may try turning the juicer off and operate in the opposite direction, then again in the forward direction. This will keep the juicer unclogged.
The Fountain Crush Juicer is equipped with scraper wiper silicon blades that spin so as to remove the pulp that might be sticking out from the strainer.
Auto Purification with a Filter Basket
The juicing jug of the Breville BJS600XL has a filter basket at its center that’s extremely helpful in auto purification. This not only makes cleanup super easy but also gives maximum yield. But this is even more helpful when users want to juice different ingredients one after the other, but don’t want the first juice’s residues to enter the second one.
The filter basket auto cleans the first juice’s remains. The user just has to pour a cup of water or two between juicing and that will flush out the previous ingredients without having to disassemble the whole juicer to clean it.
The strainer (and also auger) of the Breville Fountain Crush Juicer is made of Ultem material which is 8 times stronger than regular plastic used in several other juicers.
However, juicing ingredients that are too hard, such as coconut shells, will damage the strainer. Otherwise, it’s advisable to buy a juicer with an Ultem strainer for extra durability.
Dual Stage Juicing
Unlike other regular Breville juicers (centrifugal), the Fountain Crush Juicer uses a dual-stage masticating juicing method. It first crushes the produce with the Ultem auger and then presses it against the Ultem screen and thus yields maximum juice from the produce.
Since this is a masticating juicer, the juice it extracts is less aerated and thus has a longer shelf life. Firstly, the quantity of the juice is great as it extracts every last bit of juice from the produce and secondly, it has almost zero air bubbles in it to make it last longer.
Users can store it for up to 72 hours in the refrigerator. However, they should make sure they store it in a glass container filled completely up to the brim and with an airtight lid to prevent any air from entering the juice.
However, the sooner the users drink it the better because nutrients start breaking down as soon as the juice sits.
The description made by Breville of the juice extracted by this juicer as “smooth pulpy juice” may be misleading, but it’s not really a big problem as there is a little pulp in the juice but it’s minimal and can later be strained with a sieve. Those users who love pulpy juice can drink it without sieving.
One can only wash the Breville BJS600XL with hands as it’s not dishwasher safe.
However, due to the auto purification with the filter basket, manual cleaning is very easy. Also, a cleaning brush has been provided with which users can clean the filter basket screen and mesh filter, and remove remains of pulp sticking in it.
Rinsing it right after using it every time is recommended to avoid any buildup that may later get hardened and difficult to clean.
Safety Start Feature
The Fountain Crush Juicer comes with a Safety Start feature that checks two things – if all the parts are correctly assembled and if the lid is properly locked. If it finds any of these not done, the juicer won’t start.
The Overload Protection feature in the Breville BJS600XL will automatically stop the juicer when its motor gets too heated or is overloaded.

The Breville BJS600XL Fountain Crush Masticating Slow Juicer is perfect for new or intermediate juice enthusiasts who want to take the feel of juicing.
It extracts juice from hard and soft fruits and vegetables extremely well i.e. up to the last drop and throws out perfectly dried pulp, although a little pulp enters the juice. But the pulp can be filtered out or those who love pulpy smooth juices can drink the juice without having to filter it.
The juice also has very little to no foam and lasts for up to 72 hours.
The juicer has some outstanding features like a vertical design (despite being a masticating juicer), scraper wiper silicon blades, filter basket for auto purification, dual-direction control (reverse spinning), strong Ultem material used for strainer and auger, safety start feature, and overload protection, and hence is great for beginner or intermediate juicing needs. It’s ultra-quiet too.
But those who need juicing in large amounts will have to look for more durable and heavy-use commercial juicers.
